Born in the second half of the 19th century (1873–1883), in full Umbertine style, the Gallery was designed by Nicola Breglia and others not only as a commercial passage, but as a true “covered urban square.”
Unlike traditional cross-shaped galleries, its layout features a distinctive three-wing structure, converging into an airy central space flooded with light. Looking up at the impressive glass and iron roof, one can sense the drive toward modernity of an era that sought to unite aesthetics and functionality.
Today, after major restoration works that have restored its original splendour, the Galleria Principe is rediscovering its true vocation. It is no longer just a place to pass through on the way to the Museum or Via Bellini—it is an invitation to pause.
It is the perfect place for a coffee before immersing yourself in ancient art, to read a book sheltered from the city’s bustle, or simply to admire how the Neapolitan light plays with the geometries of iron.
Walking through the Galleria Principe means stepping into the elegance of the 19th century, while breathing in the atmosphere of knowledge that seamlessly connects ancient history with the creative energy of Naples today.
