Parco Virgiliano

On the westernmost tip of the Posillipo hill, Parco Virgiliano is one of the most panoramic places in Naples. From here, the view embraces the Gulf, Nisida, Bagnoli, Pozzuoli, the islands and the horizon of the Phlegraean Fields.

Parco Virgiliano

It is a park to explore slowly, through paths, terraces, green areas and sudden views over the sea. Here Naples changes perspective: no longer only a compact and monumental city, but an open, coastal and luminous landscape.

A park on top of Posillipo

Parco Virgiliano stands on the top of the Posillipo hill, on the rocky spur that stretches furthest towards the sea.
Its position makes it a privileged observation point: from its terraces, visitors can read together the urban profile of Naples, the western coastline, the Phlegraean landscape and the line of the sea.

From Parco della Rimembranza to Parco Virgiliano

The park was created in the twentieth century as Parco della Rimembranza, dedicated to the memory of the soldiers who died in the First World War. This origin, also recalled by the Municipality of Naples, adds a civic and memorial dimension to the site, alongside its scenic value.
Over time, the park has become above all a public space for walking, resting, enjoying the view and experiencing a quieter side of Naples. The name Virgiliano refers to the poet Virgil, a figure deeply connected to the city’s literary imagination.

The panorama as an experience

The true strength of Parco Virgiliano lies in its landscape.
From the viewpoints, visitors can enjoy views of Nisida, Bagnoli, the Gulf of Pozzuoli, the Phlegraean islands, Capri, Vesuvius, the Sorrentine Peninsula and the Posillipo coast.
It is not a single frontal panorama, but a sequence of different views: each terrace reveals a different part of the territory. Walking through the park, visitors move from wide views over the Gulf to more intimate glimpses of Gaiola, Trentaremi and the archaeological and marine landscape of the western coast.
