Palazzo Saluzzo di Corigliano
Immersed in the magnetic energy of Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, just a step away from the beating heart of Spaccanapoli, Palazzo Corigliano stands as an unexpected crossroads of eras, cultures, and continents. Built in the 16th century as the proud noble residence of the di Sangro family and later passed to the Saluzzo Dukes of Corigliano, this building flaunts an architectural rigor that conceals, as is often the case in Naples, secret wonders.
Crossing its imposing portal means taking a leap into suspended time. On the piano nobile (noble floor), a small lounge in pure Neapolitan Rococo style miraculously survives: a sparkling treasure chest of mirrors, gilded stuccos, and frescoes that still seems to whisper the social chronicles of the 18th century. Yet, the true magic of the palace lies in its contrasts. Descending into the basements, you come face to face with the imposing remains of the ancient Greek walls of Neapolis. Today, this jewel of stone and history is one of the main campuses of the L'Orientale University: walking through its courtyards, the aristocratic past blends with the sounds of Arabic, Chinese, and a thousand other global languages studied by the youth. A place where the most ancient soul of Naples opens up to the entire universe.
