- A royal garden turned public
The Villa was created in the 18th century by King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon as a royal garden. Designed along the Riviera di Chiaia, it was originally an elegant space for aristocratic walks.
In the 19th century, it was opened to the public, becoming one of the city’s first great urban parks. Today, it still preserves its historical layout, enriched with statues and fountains.
- Between nature and architecture
Walking through the Villa means entering a carefully designed landscape of shaded paths, palm trees, sculptures and sea views.
Among its highlights:
_ the Porphyry Cup Fountain
_ historic statues along the paths
_monumental gates opening onto the waterfront
The atmosphere changes throughout the day, offering different perspectives and moods.
- A place of culture and science
The park also hosts key cultural and scientific institutions:
_ the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station
_ the historic Naples Aquarium
_ the DaDoM – Darwin-Dohrn Museum
A unique blend of nature, science and knowledge.
- Curiosities to discover
Originally known as the Royal Garden, it was reserved for nobility.
Many statues date back to the 18th and 19th centuries and are inspired by classical mythology.
It has long been a symbol of the Neapolitan promenade, a place of social life and urban identity.
- A different rhythm of Naples
Villa Comunale offers a quieter perspective of the city — a place where Naples is not just seen, but experienced.
