Far from the clamor of the historic center, immersed in the green lung of the elegant Vomero district, exists a place born from a great and secret passion.
The splendid neoclassical architecture of Villa Floridiana was in fact purchased in 1815 by King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon to become the love nest and summer residence of his morganatic wife, Lucia Migliaccio, Duchess of Floridia. Today, crossing the gates of this centuries-old park and looking out from its terraces means enjoying one of the most poignant and unforgettable views over the entire Gulf of Naples.
But the real surprise is hidden inside the ancient private apartments of the duchess, which today house the Museo Duca di Martina (Duke of Martina Museum). This extraordinary institution holds one of the richest and most prestigious collections of decorative arts in Europe, donated to the city in 1911 by the heirs of the noble collector Placido de Sangro. Strolling through these rooms flooded with natural light means taking a fascinating journey through the aristocratic taste of past centuries: from the delicate porcelains of Capodimonte, Sèvres, and Meissen, to rare and precious Oriental artifacts from the Ming and Qing eras. An experience where the art of ceramics, fragile and immortal, blends with the beauty of an enchanted landscape.
